  • A Free Award from PDSA - PetWise School Award
    PDSA's PetWise School Award Programme provides a range of free resources for school teachers, group leaders and home schooling families who want to enhance their children's love of animals through fun, educational sessions. Created by teachers & vets collaboratively, this curriculum-linked resource gives teachers everything they need to educate their pupils about animals, including how to stay safe around dogs, stereotypes and how to be a responsible pet owner. This programme is not exclusive to schools and can be accessed by parents for individual children of any age when signing up as a ‘home school’. It is also part of the Children's University programme. Contact education@pdsa.org.uk if you need any support signing up.

  • Animals and us - learn all about the RSPCA
    Our free primary interactive resource for KS1 and 2 'Animals and us' is linked to the English and Welsh national curriculums. It's a visually stimulating resource for interactive whiteboard or PC, that can be viewed in either English or Welsh. Subject areas include learning about RSPCA and its people, volunteering, animals' needs, pets in general and ownership. There are downloadable certificates for children too.

    This quiz sheet asks children to match the x-ray to the pet using simple clues. It can be used as a quick holding activity or extended by asking pupils to write an explanation of why they chose each pet and/or a sentence about what they could have done to prevent any of these from happening (keep objects out of a dog's reach).

  • International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW)
    IFAW’s Cats, Dogs and Us free KS1-3 teaching pack contains lessons, student magazines, a film and activities to educate students about the characteristics of cats and dogs and their needs as domesticated animals. The resource encourages students to examine and discuss the important responsibilities people have in caring for cats and dogs and the many different ways that people live with these animals around the world.

  • International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW)
    IFAW’s new Special Schools resource Cats, Dogs and Us for students aged 2-19 focuses on learning about the needs of cats and dogs, and in turn our own needs and emotions. It includes a colourful magazine to share with students, lesson plans and a number of supporting activities including songs about cats and dogs, animal sensory experiences to explore with students, symbols to support communication, role-play activities and suggestions for a public performance based on students’ learning.

  • Pet Care Club
    Pet club consists of six taught sessions so is ideal for a weekly lunchtime or after school club. Each of the first five weeks of pet club are based around the five welfare needs, the things all animals need to be healthy and happy as outlined in the Animal Welfare Act. We have broken these down into easy to remember bite size chunks and made them relevant for most common pets.
